Reworking heirlooms

I’d like to share a recent custom piece I created for my client Diya, it spans 3 generations of women and speaks to connection, empowerment and heritage.

A luminous pink ruby stone clasped in a silver mount, it’s prongs radiating back to a ring.  A single diamond suspended from a chain.  These two pieces held familial memories, the ruby ring belonged to Diya’s grandmother, looking at the stone reminds her of her grandmothers hands.  Thinking about hands, the way they look, feel, smell can evoke such overwhelmingly powerful stories about our lives.

The diamond was given to Diya on her brothers wedding day.  The concept was to create a piece that would incorporate these stones to be worn as one or alone.  I wanted to honour the memory of this piece and everything tied to it’s present and future.  It’s an heirloom in the most meaningful sense.

Here’s a visual story of the process and the finished rings.
