Gold + Silver
Recycled All precious metals used to make Shivani Chorwadia pieces are fully recycled and traceable within the UK. I have established long term working relationships with a small number of bullion suppliers working in recycled silver and gold. Parts that are not guaranteed to be made from recycled metals are findings including earring scrolls and (non hand-fabricated) chain.
Fairmined Member of the Alliance for Responsible Mining and a registered Fairmined Licensee. If you are considering commissioning a piece of jewellery, you can now choose to have it made in recycled gold or Fairmined gold. The Fairmined label is a guarantee and assurance that the gold has been sourced only from mines that are run responsibly and ethically. Each mine that belongs to the Fairmined community is regularly audited to ensure that standards for social and environmental protection are being upheld.
DIAMONDS
All new diamonds purchased are in compliance with the Kimberley Process. The Kimberley Process exists to ensure that the supply of diamonds entering the world market are conflict free. Conflict diamonds are defined by the KP as “rough diamonds used to finance wars against governments – around the world.”
As a small business I am aware that new diamonds purchased have passed through a number of hands before reaching the studio. The Kimberley Process alone does not guarantee to be free from exploitation of child labour or modern day slavery. I choose to work with suppliers that source direct from mine ensuring each diamond is fully traceable.
coloured gemstones
When sourcing coloured gemstones I work with a select number of specialist artisanal cutters and small businesses sourcing minerals direct from mine. This ensures that I have access to all of the information regarding labour practices, whether stones have been treated and country/ mine of origin. Note that some inventory that I have purchased previously may not be traceable in this way.
